Speedway to Consolidate Town Offices
SPEEDWAY - The town of Speedway is moving forward with plans to consolidate its municipal facilities. The town has acquired a PNC Bank building, which it says will become the location of a new town hall, administrative annex, Speedway Police Department and multiple school administrative offices. Speedway acquired the property at Crawfordsville Road and Lynhurst Drive for more than $965,000 and will lease it back to PNC until the bank moves to the Speedway Marketplace development, which is still under construction.
Town Manager Jacob Blasdel says "we believe that there is strong potential for redevelopment around the current town hall site, given the close proximity to Leonard Park and the newly paved B&O Trail. Centralizing our town offices to one location will ultimately benefit our residents and town employees, while creating new opportunities for redevelopment. We're grateful for a smooth and cooperative acquisition process with PNC and are looking forward to working with the community as we embark on this exciting project."
The town says the move will centralize functions for citizens -- like water, zoning and permitting -- and improve efficiency. The full scope of the project will be determined as the city moves further through the process. The new town hall is slated to open in the summer of 2020.
