MICHIGAN CITY - Construction is set to begin Thursday on an expansion at Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa in Michigan City. The project will grow the venue's meeting and event space by about 15,000 square feet and is expected to be complete by the fall of 2019.

Casino parent Boyd Gaming (NYSE: BYD) is not providing financial details of the expansion. The project, which was first announced in May, will include a new 11,000-square-foot ballroom and 3,800-square-feet of pre-function space.

Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer will join senior executives from Boyd Gaming and Blue Chip, as well as local and regional officials, for the groundbreaking ceremony.
