Former NCAA and NFL executive Oliver Luck will lead the newly-relaunched XFL after being named commissioner and chief executive officer. Luck formerly served as president of NFL Europe and general manager of the league’s Frankfurt Galaxy and Rhein Fire. Luck played four seasons as quarterback for the NFL’s Houston Oilers after a storied college career at West Virginia University.

The XFL begins in early 2020 and will deliver what it calls a "fan-centric, innovative experience, including fast paced games and a family-friendly environment."  "Football has always been a constant in my life and I’m excited about the unique opportunity to present America’s favorite sport to fans in a new way," said Oliver Luck. "The XFL will create first-class organizations that local cities across the country will be proud of."

Luck most recently served as the NCAA’s executive VP of regulatory affairs and strategic partnerships. He directed the regulatory role, which included enforcement and academic and membership affairs. The eight-team league is set for a 10-week regular season, with a scheduled postseason of two playoff games followed by a championship contest.
