MUNCIE - The Community Foundation of Muncie and Delaware County says it awarded more than $1 million in grants to area nonprofits in 2017. The organization says the funding supported arts and culture, community betterment, economic development, education and human services projects.

More than $2.1 million in funding was requested from nonprofits throughout the year. The foundation awards grants quarterly and the requests are reviewed by a committee of 12 volunteers, which make recommendations to the foundation's board of directors.

The 2017 grant recipients include:
