The Indianapolis Colts have hired Steve Campbell as vice president of communications. He has more than 25 years of experience working at all levels of media, community programming and public service. Campbell currently is president of Campbell Strategies LLC, a local communications and strategy firm providing media counsel to business, nonprofit and public sector clients. He founded the firm in 2009. 

Campbell also is a senior associate instructor at the Indiana University Department of Journalism & Public Relations. He has been an on-air analyst for WISH-TV and WXIN-TV and a frequent community speaker on media and mass communications.

Campbell served as deputy mayor of Indianapolis for public & neighborhood affairs from 2005-07. He was responsible for directing various city operations in neighborhood development and outreach, media and communications, constituent services, environmental affairs and public access to government. Campbell also served as the city of Indianapolis’ director of communications. He was the city’s chief marketing & communications officer and the city’s spokesperson. 

Campbell had a role in the successful legislative effort to build Lucas Oil Stadium, as he was in charge of marketing and communications from 2003-05. He helped found the Colts-Business Alliance, the public-private partnership of Indiana businesses that advocated for the stadium project.

Prior to joining city hall, Campbell served as a top media advisor to two Indiana governors and the state attorney general.

Campbell is an active community volunteer and was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI Host Committee and vice-chair of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials. He also was a member of the Big 10 Championships Organizing Committee and co-chair of the National FFA Conference in Indianapolis. Campbell has been a member of several bid teams seeking to attract national and international sporting events to Indianapolis.

He is a graduate of Wabash College and the Indiana University School of Law.
