South Bend to Break Ground on $24M Development
SOUTH BEND - Officials will Thursday break ground on the Village at Riverwalk, a nearly $24 million residential development in South Bend. The event will also mark the completion of more than $5 million in infrastructure upgrades that will support the new development.
Mishawaka-based Century Builders is developing the Village at Riverwalk which, when complete, will include 43 single-family homes, 48 townhomes and 42 apartment units on approximately 10 acres of land. Construction on the first phase of the project began in July.
The city has invested about $3 million for its East Bank Phase 5 Sewer Separation project, which separated the sanitary and storm sewers across more than 40 acres of land in which the Village at Riverwalk development will be located. An additional $2.5 million was used for new curbs, sidewalks, lighting and trees, according to the city.
South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, City Councilor Jo Broden and Redevelopment Commission Board President Marcia Jones will join David Sieradzki of Century Builders for the groundbreaking ceremony.
