Martin University is starting an Instrumental Music program. President Eugene White says the program will build on 40 years of music education at the school.

The school plans to launch the new program with a musical celebration on campus May 14.

“Martin University has been educating students, serving the Indianapolis Community, and embracing various kinds of music for the last 40 years.  However, there has never been an instrumental music program at the University,” said University President Eugene White. “Martin is now ready to bring instrumental music to its students and the community.”

Director and performer of the San Francisco All Star Big Band, David Hardiman, Sr. is slated to lead the celebration, which will include performances from well-known local artists including Sandy Lomax, Everett Greene, the Finnell Factor, Vickie Daniel, and the Shaheed Quartet, among others.

The musical celebration will be held in the Father Boniface Hardin Gathertorium at 3 p.m. on the Martin University campus and is free and open to the public.
