Madison Falls Short in Competition
The city of Madison did not take home one of the top prizes in the America's Best Communities competition. Despite falling short of the $3 million grand prize, the Jefferson County city did earn $150,000 in grants throughout the competition to help implement its revitalization plan.
The grand prize went to Huntington, West Virginia. The $2 million second place prize and $1 million third place prize were awarded to Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Statesboro, Georgia, respectively.
Madison was the only Indiana city to make the finals of the three-year-long competition. The city's revitalization plan focuses on the Madison Connector, a multipurpose trail designed to connect its historic downtown and hilltop area.
