Seven Regional Cities Projects Head to IEDC
FORT WAYNE - The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority is recommending around $8.7 million in Regional Cities Initiative funding for seven projects in four counties. The largest is the first phase of the $20 million Riverfront Fort Wayne development.
The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department says construction on the riverfront development is expected to begin in late June and will take about 18 months to complete. The first phase of the project will focus on the public spaces on both the north and south sides of the St. Marys River, including a promenade, park pavilion and event lawn.
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Director Al Moll says the RDA approved 98 percent of the funding requested for the project. Last month, the Fort Wayne Board of Park Commissioners completed the $2.1 million purchase of the final three properties in the project's first phase.
