TERRE HAUTE - A major community wellness program in Vigo County has secured more funding. A grant from the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation will fund the Pomeroy Wellness Program's second phase.

The Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce says the program will be run by Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College. It will bring $100,000 to provide a pilot program focusing on improving coronary health in residents in western Vigo County through a healthy lifestyle.

The chamber says the goal of the program is to "create a culture of wellness that enables participants to continue to manage their own health throughout their lives." Participants will learn about nutrition and exercise, financial health, stress reduction and improved mental health, among others.

The chamber adds the grant will explore ways to broaden the scope of the program from just serving western Vigo County to the entire county and beyond.

The chamber received a $100,000 grant for phase one of the program, which ended in July 2015. The phase began in January and will continue for the rest of the year, thanks to this most recent grant from the Anthem.
