AUBURN - An Indiana entrepreneur will open a state-of-the-art digital video production studio in Auburn this spring. The Midwest Film Factory will offer businesses and aspiring filmmakers the latest in video and audio technology.

Julie Scher, owner of Avilla-based Scher Maihem Publishing, said the Midwest Film Factory is expected to open in April. She said the studio will not only serve as a production center for her company's client videos and for professional videographers from throughout the area, it will also serve as a training ground for aspiring videographers.

Scher anticipates the on-site training will allow the region to "highlight local talent and keep our talented video grads close to home by building an internet video production and broadcasting industry in Northeast Indiana."

Some of the amenities of the new facility will include:

  • Three well-lit video and photo studio areas with two green screen studios and a white screen studio for shooting subjects on a cyc wall background. The studios will be equipped with state-of-the-art digital cameras, lighting, tripods, computers, etc., and will have livestreaming and animation capabilities.
  • An enclosed sound booth so audio components can easily be mixed with the video during the production process.  The sound booth, which can be rented for podcasts, voice-overs and more, will be equipped with recording, playback and digital mixing equipment to ensure highest sound quality.
  • A computer room with access to Adobe Creative Suites software.
  • A changing and “prop” room where subjects can change from one costume or outfit to the next for filming a series of videos, and/or access various props for their videos.

Scher said the company chose Auburn because of the city's high-speed internet service that "will allow the studio to offer livestreams and webcasts for events and webinars."
