General Mills Closure Moves Ahead
Plans to keep the Pillsbury plant in New Albany open have fallen through. The Courier Journal in Louisville reports union officials have confirmed the plant will close next year. They tell the publication, the closing agreement and plan is being presented to union members. In January, General Mills Inc. announced plans to close its New Albany facility. The company says the move would impact about 400 employees.
The New Albany City Council voted to proceed with a $7 million economic incentive package in hopes of convincing General Mills not to close its Pillsbury facility in the city.
General Mills makes refrigerated products at the plant, including the Pillsbury brand. The company expects the facility would close mid-calendar year 2016.
