Board of Education Bill Faces Key Vote
One of two bills that would allow the State Board of Education to elect its executive director is set for second reading Monday in the Indiana House. The position is currently held by Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz. House Bill 1486 would also give the board control over turnaround schools, classify it as a state educational authority. HB 1486 also includes board adoption of voluntary prekindergarten standards to line up with K-12 standards.

Also, a bill involving industrial hemp production in the state is also set for a second reading.
That legislation includes provisions to keep it from being classified as marijuana.
