Wigwam Deal Delayed
A deal to transfer the iconic Wigwam in Anderson to private owners has been pushed back. Our partners at the Herald Bulletin report Wigwam Sports & Entertainment LLC will meet Tuesday with the Anderson Redevelopment Commission in hopes of completing a deal by the end of the month. Plans initially called for final approval of a transfer from Anderson Community Schools to the commission next week, followed by sale to the private developers.
The school corporate is scheduled to open bids for potential demolition companies June 10.
If a transfer is not complete by July 1, the Herald Bulletin reports demolition could be authorized.
No formal bidding process has taken place for redevelopment, so city officials say lining up funding is key if the deal with WSE will go through.
