VPO Coming to Northern Indiana Town

Indianapolis, Ind. — Fremont in northern Indiana sits at the crossroads of the Midwest being close to both the states of Michigan and Ohio. The town's motto is “A Place To Come Home To.”
The Steuben County town was named after John C. Fr?mont, military officer, explorer and politician who became the first Presidential candidate of the anti-slavery Republican Party. He lost the 1856 presidential election to Democrat James Buchanan.
Pokagon State Park is four miles west of Fremont, and is a popular destination for recreational activities especially camping, and for tobogganing in the winter.
Fremont will have another distinction on Friday, November 21, 2014 when the 75th Village Post Office (VPO) in the Greater Indiana District opens at Fremont Foods, 104 S. Wayne St. Fremont, IN 46737.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is at 1 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) and an open house will follow from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Fremont Foods is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The opening of a VPO in the town will not affect the local Post Office in Fremont, which opens from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (closing for lunch from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. each day). On Saturdays, the Post Office is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The new postal center will be opened by Manager of Post Office Operations Larry Chandler. Several USPS and local officials will be present at the event.
In 2011, the Postal Service introduced the VPO model as an alternate retail location for postal products and services, especially in rural communities.
VPOs are operated by local businesses contracting with the Postal Service and offer a range of popular postal products and services including stamps and flat-rate packaging.
