Visit South Bend Announces Tourism Funding The program

 Visit South Bend Mishawaka has announced $500,000 in funding to promote St. Joseph County as a tourism destination. Those receiving funding will improve visitor experience while working toward tourism product development.

The Tourism Capital Development Fund is in its second year and has been awarded to fund to fund the following seven projects in 2019:

  • Ice Box’s improved technology to host larger hockey tournaments ($71,500)
  • South Bend International Airport’s softscape improvements to the terminal and concourse ($138,500) • Venues Parks and Arts’ installation of a zipline across the St. Joe River in downtown South Bend ($100,000)
  • Potawatomi Zoo’s installation of a White Rhino exhibit ($50,000) 
  • The History Museum’s relocation of Navarre Cabin from Leeper Park to the museum campus ($25,000)
  • Historic New Carlisle’s office relocation and museum expansion ($15,000)
  • St. Joseph County Park’s addition of the region’s first natural PlayScape ($100,000) 

“We’re thrilled to continue this great initiative in 2019. Over the course of the last 2 years, 10 different venues have benefited from this fund to enhance or create new product for visitors to experience throughout St. Joseph County while giving Visit South Bend Mishawaka new opportunities to market the tourism product in our destination. It’s truly win-win and a great way to say “yes” to projects who improve the quality of place in our communities.” said Rob DeCleene, executive director of Visit South Bend Mishawaka, in a news release.
