Vintage Racers, Big Names Back at IMS

The Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational returns Friday to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association-hosted event includes competitions featuring multiple Indianapolis 500 winners driving high-performance racecars from the pre-World War II-era as well as more recent models.
New to this year’s three-day event is Trans-Am Series and MX-5 Cup series races. The MX-5 cup is in its 12th season and is considered a premier sports car series. You can find out more about the event from SVRA President Tony Parella on this weekend’s edition of Inside INdiana Business Television.
The organization bills the weekend as the "widest variety of motor racing available anywhere." In addition to the cars, three vintage motorcycle races, as well as a car show and a Saturday night celebration featuring a concert with "The Guess Who."
The marquee race of the weekend is set for 1 p.m. Saturday and will pit 33 veterans of the Indianapolis 500 and amateur racing partners against each other in the Indy Legends Charity Pro/Am. The drivers will be behind the wheels of classic Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs in a 45-minute IMS road course race that has raised $100,000 for charities since the debut race in 2014.
