The University of Saint Francis has announced new Criminal Justice and Sociology Programs. The four-year degrees launch in the fall.

March 5, 2015

News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Beginning in fall 2015, the University of Saint Francis will offer new Criminal Justice and Sociology programs in its School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Criminal Justice and Criminology is a four-year degree program designed by local law enforcement experts that can prepare students for either a career in law enforcement or related graduate studies. Aimed at addressing the issues that law enforcement professionals regularly face, this program will focus on restorative justice, which concentrates on rehabilitation and reducing recidivism among offenders. In addition to this new program, USF offers an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Sociology and Social Justice is also a four-year program intended for students who are working toward a career in social activism. Students will learn theories of sociology along with research and data analysis skills that will prepare them for a wide variety of careers that utilize sociology. This program is also a potential first step for students looking to continue their graduate studies in similar fields.

“These new programs are going to truly enhance our ability to offer real-world, relevant experience in these fields,” said Dr. Lance Richey, dean of the USF School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. “We are very excited to see students excel in these new programs and beyond as they pursue their goals after graduation.”

Students in both of these programs will learn real-world skills in the classroom and through various internship opportunities and field experiences. Registration for fall 2015 courses is open now. Visit sf.edu for more information.

The University of Saint Francis is celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2015. Founded in 1890 as a comprehensive university in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, USF offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs through the School of Health Sciences, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership and School of Creative Arts. In addition to its traditional programs, the university designs focused curriculum for working adults in Fort Wayne, Crown Point, and online. Currently 2,300 students from a broad geographic region attend USF for its academic excellence.
