UIndy to Host Guitar Foundation Convention

The single largest classical guitar event in the world is coming to the University of Indianapolis next year. The university will host the six-day Guitar Foundation of America International Convention and Competition in June. The convention will feature hundreds of classical guitar masters and enthusiasts from across the globe.
The annual convention includes three concerts per day, workshops, masterclasses and private lessons, along with vendor expositions and lectures. Three divisions are featured in the competitions, with the winner of the GFA International Concert Artist Competition being awarded an international tour, cash prize, and recording and publishing contracts. The International Youth Competition has senior and junior divisions with winners receiving cash awards and prizes.
Event organizer Nemanja Ostojic, associate adjunct professor of classical guitar, said the convention will make a positive impact throughout the Midwest. “The festival will be packed with guitarists from all over the world. This is a great opportunity for students, faculty and the local community to get involved. Leading guitar magazines and international publications will cover the event, simultaneously placing the UIndy campus and our city on the world map of guitar,” Ostojic said.
The convention is set for June 22-27, 2020.
