News Release

South Bend, Ind. — More than 600 swimmers from across the state will be gathering in South Bend to compete in the annual Indiana Swimming Senior State Short Course Championship meet March 13-15, 2015. The meet will take place at the Rolf's Aquatic Center on the Notre Dame campus and is open to the public.

The meet will be hosted by Irish Aquatics and the Concord Swim Club, bringing the statewide meet to the area for the first time since the late 1990s. With more than 600 swimmers competing, and the addition of family and fans traveling with the competitors, the swim meet is expected to have a total economic impact of $608,329 in St. Joseph County over the three day competition.

“Being able to host such large swimming competitions is great for our community,” says Meghan Huff, sports sales manager for Visit South Bend Mishawaka. “Family, friends and fans of swimmers tend to travel well to support their team, and that is bound to have a positive economic impact on the cities they visit.”

The public is welcome and encouraged to witness the state level talents being displayed in the pool over the weekend. Admission cost is $8 for one day of the preliminary rounds, or $20 for all days. Admission to the final round is free to all, and children under 12 are free all competition long.

“Irish Aquatics is honored to be co-hosting the Indiana Swimming Senior State Championship with Concord Swim Club,” says Wendy Champan, president of Irish Aquatics. “We look forward to showcasing Rolf's Aquatic Center at the University of Notre Dame and to get to witness some great swimming.”

Irish Aquatics is a recipient of the 2015 tourism marketing grant allocated by the St. Joseph County Hotel-Motel Tax Board and administered by Visit South Bend Mishawaka.

All economic impact quantities were calculated using the Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) Event Impact Calculator. All information is based on local market size and other information specific to St. Joseph County to generate the most accurate numbers possible.
