A Hanover College entrepreneur is hoping a fuzzy gnome named Winzlow can spark success for his startup company. D.J. Kondaki has created WinzlowNation, which sells his children's books and character merchandise. He hopes to gain exposure through a series of book tours at schools, libraries, nonprofit organizations and conventions. The venture is featured on this month's INnovators With Dr. K segment. Kondaki says he created the Winzlow character while doodling in high school. He wrote his first children's book at 19.

WinzlowNation's website is currently selling two books, focused on educating children on topics including color, language and diversity. The site also sells merchandise including shirts, book bags and lanyards.

Dr. K says a business like Kondaki's can be successful if it is flexible in letting the market dictate where the need is and what products are desired.
