Statewide Aerial Mapping to Get Underway Soon
An Ohio-based company with an office in Indianapolis has announced an aerial mapping contract with the state. Woopert’s three-year, $1.7 million deal involves images of the entire state.
Woolpert also mapped the state from 2011-2013. The contract is with the Indiana Office of Technology and Geographic Information Office and will be available for use by state offices, cities and counties.
Indiana Geographic Information Officer Jim Sparks says "we know from research that this critical dataset returns our investment many times over. More compellingly, it improves the quality of life of Indiana citizens. I have received dozens of stories about how this data is used to mitigate disasters, help Indiana businesses work more efficiently, improve our agricultural practices, inventory our public infrastructure and help us be better stewards of our natural resources."
Over the last five years, Woolpert has completed seven state mapping project. It will map one-third of Indiana each year. The project is set to begin in the spring with the mapping of the central portion of counties.
