State Board OKs School District ‘A-F’ Grades

The Indiana State Board of Education has approved the Indiana Department of Education’s recommended school corporation grades for the 2017 school year. The board also unanimously approved measures involving a music teacher program at DePauw University, special education regulations, school quality reviews and Alternate Assessment evaluation team membership.

In 2017, 48 schools — nearly 17 percent of the 289 districts in the state — received an "A," compared to 23 in 2016. "B" grades totaled 149, down from 175 in 2016. Sixty-three school corporations received a "C" in 2017, compared to 85 in 2016. Six were given a "D" in 2017 and five received a "D" in 2016.
