SOUTH BEND, Ind. – La Casa de Amistad is preparing to celebrate our 40th Anniversary serving families in Michiana and is pleased to announce our new Executive Director, Sam Centellas.
About LA CASA DE AMISTAD
La Casa de Amistad operates a youth and community center on the west side of South Bend. The name means “The house of friendship.” Its mission is to empower the Latino/Hispanic community within Michiana by providing educational, cultural and advocacy services in a welcoming, bilingual environment. A part of the West Side of South Bend for 40 years, La Casa de Amistad provides many men, women, and children the opportunity to come and take part in enhancing a skill or developing a new skill through participating in the classes, activities and support offered. Many participate in a range of activities to help develop leadership skills and achieve an understanding of their own culture and heritage as it relates to the general population.
New Executive Director, Sam Centellas to join staff in September of 2013
Sam Centellas has spent nearly 15 years working in higher education and volunteering his time to help families achieve their educational goals. He will bring his organizational development background, community engagement experience, and a new fundraising perspective to the lead the staff at La Casa.
Sam currently serves on the Diversity Utilization Board for the Common Council in South Bend, IN, is a member of the Hispanic Leadership Coalition, and serves on boards and committees for many community groups. Sam has worked in the Michiana area for Ivy Tech Community College and Indiana University South Bend and is bringing his experience as an educator, mentor, activist and dedicated volunteer to La Casa de Amistad.
40th Anniversary Celebration Events in October of 2013!
La Casa de Amistad plans several events to commemorate 40 years. Proceeds from these events will benefit the youth programs offered at La Casa de Amistad. Our sponsors are Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center and Comcast (do we list all sponsors for the dinner? It is a long list)
1. October 11, 2013, La Casa De Amistad will hold an open house for our volunteers, stakeholders, constituents, and interested community members at our center, 746 South Meade Street; South Bend, IN 46619.
2. October 17, 2013, La Casa de Amistad offers a ticketed dinner and celebration at St. Adalbert Parish featuring our Keynote Speaker Al Gutierrez, Chief Executive Officer of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center as well as a cultural dance presentation. Tickets are $40 per plate and are available by calling La Casa.
3. October 19, 2013, there will be the ticketed Fiesta Dance event at Century Center in featuring music and dancing. The headliner will be Grupo Palomo along with local groups Los hermanos Buenos, Los Diamantes de Nuevo Leon, Tejano sound Band and the Chicago area Banda Viento Alegre.
