News Release
Statehouse — Indiana Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today announced Senate Republicans’ assignments for the 2014 summer study committees.
Each summer and fall — when Indiana’s part-time legislature is not in session — lawmakers are assigned to interim study committees that meet to review the state’s top issues, as identified by the General Assembly during the prior legislative session.
“Study committees play an essential role in Indiana’s part-time citizen legislature,” Long said. “The focused attention that lawmakers are able to give to important issues during the summer will guide many of the key public policy efforts we pursue in the next legislative session.”
Study committee topics are assigned by the Legislative Council, which is comprised of 16 voting members — eight from the House of Representatives and eight from the Senate.
