The Auburn Common Council has given initial tax abatement approval to a metal recycler looking to occupy a former Alcoa plant in the city. KPCNews says the council okayed multi-year tax phase-ins for MetalX LLC on nearly $9 million in building improvements and equipment. Last year, the company announced plans to add 200 employees over the next three years at its headquarters in Waterloo. When it was announced, Chief Executive Officer Danny Rifkin said the company saw opportunities for further growth through acquisitions and new plants in Indiana and throughout the Midwest.

MetalX recycles aluminum from public, industrial and wholesale sources.
