The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association, which has a regional office in Elkhart, is reporting a more than 17 percent annual jump in wholesale shipments. The organization represents manufacturers and suppliers that it says build 98 percent of all American-made RVs. The RVIA full-year report shows 504,599 units were shipped in 2017, compared to 430,491 in 2016.
The final month of the year, the figures suggest, was the best December on comparable record. Other numbers that drove December’s performance include: 31,541 towable RV units shipped during the month, an increase of 9.5 percent over the same month a year earlier, and 4,686 motorhome shipments in December, up 12.2 percent from December 2016. For the full year: towable RV shipments increased 17.6 percent to 441,961 units and motorhome shipments rose 14.4 percent to 62,638 over 2016.
