Plastics-to-Fuel Facility Clears Key Hurdle

The Steuben County Board of Commissioners has approved a $1.5 million loan to support an Ohio company’s planned plastics-to-fuel processing plant. The Herald Republican in Angola reports RES Polyflow expects to close soon on financing through the Indiana Finance Authority and could begin construction on the $131 million project in the coming weeks.

Plans call for half of an 80-acre property to be used by the company, with the other half left open for additional development opportunities. The publication says the county council still needs to approve funding for some infrastructure work related to the parcel before the project can start.

The investment was first announced in late-2015 and its scope has changed since then. The company said the facility could eventually employ some 140. RES Polyflow produces what it says is ultra-low sulfur diesel and gasoline blendstocks from plastic materials that are often discarded.
