Pacers to Appear in GQ

Indianapolis, Ind. — A few months ago, Paul George received a pitch from GQ to appear in their March edition of the magazine, part of a 24-page spread on NBA and its fashion. Just as he told ESPN when they asked for a sit-down interview earlier in the season, George wanted to do the photo shoot with four of his teammates. GQ obliged, and thus the Pacers starters — George Hill, Lance Stephenson, George, David West and Roy Hibbert — are featured in the magazine, together.
“They reached out to me to do some GQ and I thought it’d be cool to get the whole starting five in it and they were able to shoot us all,” George said at Bankers Life Fieldhouse following shootaround Tuesday morning.
The players didn't have any say in their outfits, as the magazine's stylists dressed them.
“It came out good,”said George. “It was different. Everybody had a look that they normally wouldn’t wear. We had fun with it. I thought it brought us a little closer and our chemistry grew off of that shoot.
“GHill was probably the one that was really loving the whole photo shoot and loving his look. They gave him that outfit and he ran with it.”
The Pacers have been featured prominently in other magazines, like ESPN and SI. George event graces the cover of the most recent ESPN The Magazine publication. But being included in GQ, a style, fashion, and entertainment magazine that reaches a whole different audience, was an entirely different experience.
“It was great to be a part of what GQ does,” George said. “Obviously they're a prestigious magazine and it’s a different crowd that looks at GQ. I was happy we were able to do it as a team and really put ourselves out there.”
George hasn't yet received feedback from his stylist, or sister, Teiosha, who helps style his brother. She did respond to me on Instagram writing, “I like!!!”
Lakers forward Nick Young, who also posed for the cameras, thought the Pacers’ look was “different.”
“The little open shirt and all that,” he said, laughing.
“I think it’s cool just to be in it and give people something to talk about. You get a whole different following and looking at you — from a fashion standpoint and trying to crack into another [segment of fans] outside the NBA.”
