The Indiana Department of Transportation and construction partners have broken ground on Section 5 of the I-69 expansion. The stretch runs between Bloomington and Martinsville and is expected to be complete near the end of next year. Last year, the Indiana Finance Authority announced it sold more than $240 million in bonds on behalf of I-69 Development Partners, which marked the financial closing of the project.

Section 5 runs along State Road 37.

INDOT has opened an office north of the project to “better serve the public” during the work to build the next, and final section, which could continue on SR-37 to Indianapolis.

A bill that would allow the possibility of directing Section 6 through Perry Township in southern Marion County was signed into law earlier this month.
