Munster Approves South Shore Funding
The Munster Town Council has agreed to help fund expansion of the South Shore Line. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report other Lake County communities are also chipping in, hoping to generate enough for a local match required to receive federal funding. The expansion would extend the commuter railroad from Hammond to Dyer; the route could one day reach Lowell and Valparaiso.
Munster is giving 34 percent of funding it receives from the public safety portion of its local option income tax, which adds up to $163,000.
The projected cost of the expansion is $571 million.
