Military Boosts AM General Deal

The company also recently landed a $430 million deal for ambulance chassis Humvees for disaster relief work.

South Bend-based AM General LLC has received a contract increase from the U.S. Department of Defense. The more than $9 million modification involves 40 ambulance shelters for Humvees. The work is expected to be complete in July and will be performed in Mishawaka.

This year has included some big contract news for the company. Early last month, AM General was awarded a $356 million contract for 1,700 Humvees for the Afghanistan National Army and Police. Earlier this month, the company also signed a 10-year lease to move its service parts and logistics operations into a South Bend speculative building that was constructed as a partnership between Great Lakes Capital and the city.
