Fishers-based Meyer Najem Corp. has landed the construction management contract for the $11.5 million Kokomo baseball stadium project. The company expects construction to begin soon and wrap up in time for next year's high school baseball season.

Fishers, Ind. — Meyer Najem has been awarded the construction management of a significant new $11.5 million redevelopment effort in downtown Kokomo, Indiana. The new downtown development will address the flood prone area along the Wildcat Creek by directing $2.5 million in flood mitigation efforts to repurpose the site for the stadium. The $9 million stadium will be enjoyed by generations, and begin to alleviate long standing flooding concerns in central Kokomo.

This facility will accommodate over 4,000 people for baseball, soccer, and other sporting and special events and will have the ability to expand seating for concerts and other community activities. Initially the stadium will be used by local high school and college baseball teams. Efforts are underway to attract larger tournaments and semi- professional teams as well. Eventually, the stadium will merge into one of the largest new developments in downtown’s history and will make significant contributions to the economic resurgence of the downtown area. It will be the first new baseball stadium in Kokomo since Highland Park Stadium was built in 1955. That stadium was once home field for the Kokomo Dodgers, who were a Minor League affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Stadium construction is expected to begin soon and open in April 2015 in time for next year's high school baseball season.
