The town of Merrillville has taken a big step in an effort to attract an investment from an overseas pharmaceutical company. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the town is set to purchase a sports facility, which would ultimately be leased to South Korea-based UK Do-i. Plans call for the town to donate the property to Purdue Research Foundation.

The foundation would then work out a lease agreement between The Fieldhouse and the company.

The redevelopment commission is set to vote Tuesday on approval of the town's $3.2 million offer.

If approved, the town would seek a bond to cover the purchase price.

UK Do-i has several operations in Asia. The manufacturer wants to build an operation in Merrillville if it can receive U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval for its pre-filled IV kit.
