Tennessee-based SCHOTT Gemtron Corp. is planning to close a unit at its Vincennes plant. In a notice to the state, the company says the move will affect 65 food display production employees and is a result of a “significant downturn” in business. SCHOTT Gemtron says it is part of a company-wide reorganization initiative.

The company says part of the contract with the Merrillville-based chapter of International Union of Painters & Allied Trades stipulated workers in the unit with seniority represented by the union will have the opportunity to displace less-senior workers in other part of the company.

In 2012, the company relocated the line from Kentucky. In 2013, it announced the move resulted in more than 100 jobs at the Vincennes facility.
