A Texas-based pipeline manufacturer believes an increase in use of North American tar sands provides an opportunity to expand in northern Indiana. Tejas Tubular Products Inc. Chief Executive Officer Max Tejas says the company is hoping to receive final county approval next month on a major expansion that could create 150 jobs in New Carlisle over the next two years. The St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce says Tejas told a town hall-style gathering last night it intends to be up and running with 100 workers by Christmas.

Tejas is planning to invest $12 million into the former Scott Brass site, including around $15 million in new equipment.

It will go before the county council Tuesday evening to propose the renovations.

CEO Max Tejas is a Purdue University graduate.
