Renovations to Kokomo's last train depot are underway. Work on the more than 100-year-old landmark could total around $500,000. City of Kokomo Development Specialist David Tharp tells Inside INdiana Business the surrounding area has seen an $11 million infusion of private investment in recent years. The city's Director of Operations Randy McKay says the building is a focal point of a major downtown overhaul.

It's not yet clear how the revamped depot will be used once renovations are complete.

Work could wrap up as early as the end of the summer.

Additional projects include masonry work and other exterior improvements.

McKay tells the Kokomo Tribune the city is working to market the property “in such a way that it augments the rest of the area.”
