Job App Maker Announces Expansion
Indianapolis-based WorkHere LLC is planning to add 161 central Indiana jobs over the next five years. The mobile job app company says the expansion is needed to meet demand as its footprint grows into markets like Chicago and Cincinnati. WorkHere currently employs 10 and plans to more than double its headcount by the end of the year.
The new positions, which include software development, user experience, marketing, business development and sales, are expected to pay nearly double the average wage in the state. As plans to expand into 15 metro areas within a year unfold, WorkHere plans to invest nearly $680,000 into additional space somewhere in central Indiana.
The company’s Chief Technology Officer Rick Wehrle developed the app and is well-known in the state’s tech scene. In 1992, he created Online Career Center, which is considered the first web-based job board. It was later acquired and became Monster.com. Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Mike Siedle says "online job boards were first developed in Indiana, and we are proud to continue this trend by expanding WorkHere’s operations here while sharing the state’s innovations across the country. Our app provides a wonderful platform to assist with the matching of employers’ current and future workforce skills needs as well as the curriculum priorities of educational organizations throughout the state and beyond. We look forward to continuing our partnerships with the state and local communities to help reshape Indiana’s workforce."
WorkHere’s stable of customers include Goodwill Industries, JW Marriott, McDonald’s, Penske, FedEx and Indianapolis-based Crew Carwash. Its partnerships include EmployIndy, area high schools, colleges and veteran and military services organizations.
The company was launched a year ago and has already raised more than $2 million in private capital. WorkHere’s user base is currently around 36,000. It has been offered by to $2.9 million in conditional tax credits and training grants from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
