Indiana University Health Arnett in Lafayette says it will hold a 5K run/walk next month as part of its annual Health and Safety Fair. The event will raise funds for the IU Health Arnett Foundation.

Lafayette, Ind. — Indiana University Health Arnett is hosting its third annual Health and Safety Fair on May 17 from 11 am to 3 pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital.

New in 2014, is the addition of the community 5K run/walk event starting at 10 am. Proceeds from this event will go to the IU Health Arnett Foundation that serves as a resource to IU Health Arnett providers, programs and services to support excellence in patient-centered treatment, research and education in health and wellness of the Greater Lafayette community and surrounding areas.

Pam Dexter, IU Health Arnett Foundation Director says, “As a leader in the healthcare industry, we deeply value our relationship to the communities that we serve. We want to offer a fun community event that also links back to one of our main initiatives which is to work to reduce obesity rates and encourage people to be active. We invite people of all ages to join us for the 5K run/walk as well as to stay and check out the great family activities we’ll have at the health & safety fair.”

The new 5K course will take runners and walkers around the hospital and surrounding countryside. Early registration fee is $25.00 (for t-shirts) on or before April 30. After May 1 or until day of race, the fee is $30.00 (without t-shirt). Register at iuhealth.org/gethealthyarnett.

The annual health and safety fair is a free, family-friendly event that will include interactive games and educational activities for children hosted by IU Health Arnett departments and community organization partners.

While at the fair, children can:

• Receive a free bike helmet from IU Health Arnett Foundation

• Learn information on dog-bite prevention and how to safely approach dogs from The Almost Home Humane Society

• Bring a stuffed animal for a checkup at the Teddy Bear Clinic

• Challenge friends on an obstacle course

• Learn and practice hands-only CPR and AED skills

• Tour the LifeLine emergency helicopter

• Visit the mobile library from Tippecanoe County Public Library

• Receive a free, Child ID from the Lafayette Police Department

• Practice making 911 calls with the Lafayette Dispatch Center

• Much, much more!

Parents will be encouraged to keep an eye on their health by receiving free stress tests, blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI screenings.

Each family can enter to win family friendly raffle items such as a family photo package from ISPhotographic, restaurant gift cards, Buccaneer Bay passes and many more exciting items.
