The school says the search process is already underway for head coaches for both programs. The Office of Athletics hopes to have those positions filled before the start of the 2016-2017 school year. The university expects about 50 students to participate in the new programs.
IU East will play in what is currently known as the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but will soon be known as the River States Conference. The Red Wolf will be the league’s ninth men’s team and tenth women’s team.
The additions bring the total number of NAIA varsity sports programs offered at IU East to 13. The school currently competes in men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.
