IPL Announces ‘Power Grants’

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. has awarded $75,000 in grants to 23 nonprofits. The funding is through the utility's Power Grants Program, which allows employees to nominate potential recipients.

Indianapolis, Ind. — Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), has awarded $75,000 in grants to 23 non-profit organizations through its Power Grants Program. IPL employees were given the opportunity to nominate a non-profit organization for consideration, and the grants were then awarded by a selection committee made up of their peers.

“Through Power Grants, IPL has given a total of $300,000 to organizations helping to make our community thrive,” said Kelly Huntington, IPL President and CEO. “Power Grants gives our employees a chance to be a part of our corporate contributions process and the opportunity to support the community organizations they are passionate about.”

Power Grants are awarded within IPL's five giving categories: Arts & Culture, Community Enhancement, Economic Development, Education and Environment. The Power Grants Program began in 2013 to give employees a voice in how corporate contributions are made. IPL invests more than $2 million in annually in the community and its people volunteer more than 28,000 hours.

Among the newest Power Grant Program recipients, Indianapolis Public Schools Education Foundation was awarded $9,000 to help teachers connect classrooms with community resources which create quality and innovative learning spaces. In addition, the League of Miracles was awarded $5,000 to help build handicap-accessible restrooms at their sports complex which caters to adults and children with disabilities.
