INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Building permit reports indicate that in the Greater Indianapolis Nine-County area, Single-Family Building Permits decreased three percent compared to 2014 numbers year-to-date. In April 2015, there were 471 new home permits issued compared to 521 in 2014 in the nine-county area.

“As the housing market recovers, we will most likely see annual permit numbers remain steady with slight month-to-month increases and decreases as lot availability remains a challenge for the industry,” says Steve Lains, CEO of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis. “With solid first quarter numbers in the Indy Metro area, local home builders remain optimistic about 2015 and are encouraged by the current sales activity in the local marketplace,” says Lains.

In the Greater Indianapolis Nine-County region, the permits issued in April 2015 have created a total economic impact of $288,683,091 in local income, $65,535,841 in local taxes, and 4,888 local jobs (see chart below).
