An international tourism publication is including Indianapolis on its annual list of "America’s Favorite Places." Travel + Leisure ranked cities based on surveys that measured 65 factors.

They include affordability, notable restaurants and public parks. Cities with populations lower than 100,000 and receiving fewer than 20 votes were tossed, the cities were then ranked based on average score. Indianapolis placed 17th, just ahead of New Orleans and behind Chicago.

The publication spotlighted Indianapolis’ sports attractions, including college and professional teams and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame. It also recognized the Kurt Vonnegut Memorial Library, the Indianapolis Museum of Art and even the art-laden Conrad Hotel lobby.

The top 10 includes:

  1. Buffalo, New York
  2. San Antonio, Texas
  3. Providence, Rhode Island
  4. Norfolk, Virginia
  5. Nashville, Tennessee
  6. Albuquerque, New Mexico
  7. Richmond, Virginia
  8. Knoxville, Tennessee
  9. Raleigh, North Carolina
  10. Fort Worth, Texas

In all, 400 cities and towns were considered. You can connect to the full list by clicking here.
