A national publication's annual ranking of the best graduate schools once again includes colleges in Indiana. The list from U.S. News and World Report examines programs such as business, education, engineering, law and medicine. The top three ranked schools in Indiana in several categories are:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – U.S. News and World Report has again recognized Indiana University programs in business, law, education, medicine and nursing in its annual Best Graduate Schools rankings.

Ranked in the top 25 this year are the IU School of Nursing at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, which was 19th overall and 10th among public universities; the IU Kelley School of Business, which was 21st overall and seventh among publics; and the IU School of Education, which was 25th overall and 15th among publics.

Both law schools at IU were nationally ranked among about 200 such institutions evaluated.

The IU Maurer School of Law in Bloomington was 34th overall and tied for 16th among public universities. The IU McKinney School of Law ranked 102nd overall and 55th among public universities.

The IU Maurer School of Law’s tax program was ranked 16th, sixth among public schools. Its intellectual property program was ranked 20th (fifth among public schools), the third year in a row it has placed in the top 25 nationally. Maurer’s international law program ranked 23rd, ninth among public schools.

The part-time Doctor of Jurisprudence degree program at the IU McKinney School of Law at Indianapolis was ranked 26th and 11th among such programs at public universities. Its health law specialty was ranked 11th and fourth among publics.

Other schools had specialties that were nationally ranked. Two Kelley specialties were in the Top 10 — entrepreneurship, which was ninth, and accounting, which was 10th. The School of Education's specialty in higher education administration was ninth.

The IU School of Medicine at Indianapolis' ranking of its research activity was 45th and 19th among public universities. The ranking of its education of physicians who work in primary patient care was 47th and 29th among public universities.

U.S. News annually produces rankings in education, business, law and medicine that are based on formulas that consider reputation surveys, selectivity, research funding and productivity, outcomes for graduates and other factors. Specialties in the schools are evaluated through surveys of deans, program directors and faculty. Other programs are typically ranked once every four years.
