The major project will affect the stretch between State Road 2 and U.S. 30. The Indiana Department of Transportation says lane shifts and reduced speed limits will be in place throughout the effort.
Work includes widening the busy thoroughfare, bridge repairs, adding erosion control and pavement resurfacing. This portion of the I-65 Northwest Indiana Expansion Project is expected to take most of the summer.
Crews will focus on sections including: I-65 from U.S. 231 to south of U.S. 30; I-65 south of S.R. 2 to U.S. 231; the Kankakee River bridges. INDOT says northbound traffic along I-65 won’t be affected during the 2017 construction season.
