Hub For Logistics Could Grow
A proposal from South Bend-based Great Lakes Capital LLC will go before the city council Monday involving expanding the Ameriplex development area. The company says the property would be used for a new 300,000 square-foot-building for an unidentified company to retain its current 300 employee work force and add another 100.
The property 119-acre tract is currently undeveloped. Great Lakes Capital is petitioning to have it rezoned for light industrial use. The area is home to several advanced manufacturing and logistics-related facilities including FedEx, Hubbell-Raco, Chase Plastics, Pepsi and AM General.
The South Bend Regional Chamber says the development plans were initially approved in the area 12 years ago.
