South Bend, Ind. — Hockey Time Productions recently held its largest competition of the 2013-2014 season in South Bend, creating an economic impact of $979,143 over Presidents Day weekend.
The competition brought 75 teams to the Compton Family Ice Arena to compete in the four-day-long tournament. According to a Hockey Time Productions representative, the competition attracted roughly 3,400 visitors to the area including participants as well as spectators during the chilly holiday weekend.
“Being able to host such large events, pulling participants from all over the country, during the winter months has meant great things for our community,” says Meghan Huff, sports sales manager for Visit South Bend Mishawaka. “It also provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase our impressive facilities and generate a buzz about the sports atmosphere in our community.”
This is not the first, nor the last, time a Hockey Time tournament is being held in the area. Two more tournaments will be held this season (March 7-9 and April 25-27), and six other tournaments have already taken place since September 2013. While the Presidents Day weekend competition was the largest of the hockey season, other tournaments that have taken place this season have brought in an average of $684,275 each.
“The great facilities, easy drive time and the University make South Bend a top choice of many teams,” says Tony Prpic, president of Hockey Time Productions. “We look forward to continued growth in the 2014-2015 season.”
