News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The MESH Coalition announced today that it has appointed Bobby A. Courtney, MA, MPH, JD as Interim Chief Executive Officer. Courtney replaces Chad Priest, RN, MSN, JD, who has been named Assistant Dean of Operations and Community Partnerships at the Indiana University School of Nursing. The transition was effective January 1.

“The MESH Coalition board is thankful for all that Chad Priest was able to accomplish in his four-year tenure as CEO,” said Virginia A. Caine, M.D., Director of the Marion County Public Health Department and Chair of the MESH Coalition Board of Directors. “He helped lead MESH to become one of the premier nationally recognized models for emergency management in large metropolitan areas. While we will miss Chad’s dynamic leadership, we are pleased to have Bobby Courtney step into the CEO role. His knowledge and understanding of emergency healthcare management issues and processes make him the ideal person to lead MESH through this transition.”

“I have been proud to lead the MESH Coalition through a period of tremendous growth and achievement,” said Mr. Priest. “We celebrated our fifth anniversary this past year, having grown to become one of the most sophisticated healthcare coalitions in the country, a critical player in responding to large-scale central Indiana healthcare emergencies, and a national leader in how to build healthcare coalitions. I leave MESH proud of all that we have accomplished and eager to watch the coalition’s continued success under Bobby’s leadership.”

Mr. Courtney has been with the MESH Coalition since 2009, most recently as Chief Programming Officer. In this role, he has been responsible for oversight of the entire portfolio of programs and services provided by the MESH Coalition, an innovative non-profit, public-private partnership that enables healthcare providers to respond effectively to emergency events and remain viable through recovery.

“I am humbled to be asked to lead MESH through this transition,” said Mr. Courtney. “Our work helps the Indiana emergency healthcare community innovate and improve, working together to save lives. I look forward to working with the board and our staff to continue the important work being done by the MESH Coalition and our partner organizations.”

Mr. Priest has begun his duties at the Indiana University School of Nursing, but will remain with the MESH Coalition on a limited basis until a permanent replacement is named. The Executive Committee of the MESH Board of Directors will lead a nationwide search for a permanent CEO, whom they hope to name by mid-year.
