Another site has emerged as a potential location for an Indiana University Medical School in southwest Indiana. The Martin Group believes undeveloped property on the eastside of Evansville would be ideal. Our partners at Eyewitness News in Evansville report the proposal calls for the school to be part of a planned community called The Promenade. Developer Steve Martin says the Health Science Education & Research Center will provide a boost to the area.

More information on The Martin Group's plan can be found by clicking here.

Indiana University is expected to issue a request for proposals in the next few weeks.

IU has several partners on the project including Ivy Tech Community College, the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville.

It is one of three locations being pitched for Vanderburgh County locations. Another, detailed earlier this month, offers a site in Warrick County. You can view more information about that proposal by clicking here.

News Release

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Promenade is the premier site for the proposed interdisciplinary academic health science education and research campus, a joint effort of the Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville, the University of Southern Indiana, The University of Evansville, and Ivy Tech Community College.

Steve Martin, Managing Partner of The Promenade, showcased the expansive 69 undeveloped acre site located between I-164 and Cross Pointe Boulevard and bounded by Oak Grove Road and Columbia Street. The Promenade is located in the heart of Southwest Indiana's fastest growing retail, entertainment, and housing sector, the eastside of Evansville.

The Promenade site is ready to build, is already served by all utilities, is in a Tax Increment Finance District, and will accommodate the proposed educational facility as well as any future expansion. In addition, land is available for related developments that will result from the establishment of the new campus.

“The quality of life and the quality of healthcare in the region will increase as a result of the decision to build the new medical professions campus,” said Steve Martin. “The campus and resulting medical residency programs are a game changer for Southwestern Indiana health and education. The Promenade is the right place for this important development.”

The Promenade is a master planned community intended to create a healthy lifestyle by incorporating places to study, live, work, and play. Complementing the new campus will be hospitality and entertainment incorporated into a lakefront “Entertainment District” along Cross Pointe Boulevard.

The adjacent “Promenade Town Center @ Vogel” is envisioned as Main Street USA with abundant healthy green spaces for outdoor activities with walking and bike paths leading to and from the area. Retail shops with office and residential space located above will be a feature of Vogel Road.

Nearly 1,000 units of anticipated housing units will be built within The Promenade and approximately 1,000 existing apartments and condos are within walking distance today. These apartments are well served by five existing grocery stores within walking/biking distance.

Additional and ongoing information updates are at www.Promenade-Evansville.com.
