Greenwood-based real estate developer The Garrett Companies has been named to the list of 2020 Best Small & Medium Workplaces by Fortune magazine. Several large companies were also recognized as best workplaces among large national employers.

The ranking is based on employee surveys in which they rate their organization.

Garrett received the highest ranking of any Indiana-based company and was ranked No. 31 across the U.S. for small businesses.

Fortune’s Great Place to Work evaluators look at 60 employee experiences, including trust in leadership, respect in the organization, fairness of workplace decisions and camaraderie among workers.

“Our past year was a tremendous success as a result of a company mindset which recognizes that people are more than their jobs. This mantra coupled with a well-designed workplace platform that encourages, supports and rewards individuals and teams for both growth and achievement has continued to prove itself as a powerful core to our corporate culture,” said Matt Griffin, chief operating officer for The Garrett Companies.

Garrett says it promotes mentorship and cross departmental learning and growth opportunities. It also offers a vast array of lifestyle perks, including haircuts, massage therapy, four weeks of paid time off from day one of employment, and an annual ski retreat in Colorado.

More than 189,000 employees nationally rated their employers. Companies with 10 to 99 people were considered for the small list; companies with 100 – 999 employees were considered for the medium list.

California-based SalesForce, with three Indianapolis offices, is ranked No. 4. Switzerland-based Roche, which has a large presence at Roche Diagnostics in Indianapolis, was ranked No. 21 among large companies.
